Yorktown Adds Two New Varsity Sports for the Fall - Girls Flag Football and Boys Volleyball

28 Jun from Yorktown High School

Arlington Public Schools recently approved two new varsity sports for this fall season. Yorktown has offered both sports for the past few years, but they will now be full varsity status. We are excited to launch the inaugural season of both sports.

Students who are interested in either of these sports will need to make a full commitment as both teams will practice daily. Specific questions can be addressed to the coach listed, however, due to summer break, responses might have a slight delay.

Girls Flag Football - Tryouts will take place beginning September 8. All interested students will need to complete the full athletic registration, including uploading a valid VHSL physical, prior to tryouts on September 8. More information on that process is available at https://yorktownsports.org/main/otherad?contentID=55918744 The team will be selected the week of September 8 and will practice Monday - Thursday weekly until games begin in late September. The current schedule has 10 games plus an end-of-season tournament. Specific questions can be addressed to michael.krulfeld@apsva.us or kenzo.mckenzie@apsva.us (head coach)

Boys Volleyball - An optional, but recommended, clinic will be held for all interested students Monday-Friday, August 10-14 in the main gym from 3:30-5:30 pm. Tryouts will be held starting Monday, August 17 at 3 pm in the main gym and will continue through at least Wednesday, August 19 and possibly Friday, August 21. All interested students will need to complete the full athletic registration, including uploading a valid VHSL physical, to participate in the clinics and the tryout. More information on that process is available at https://yorktownsports.org/main/otherad?contentID=55918744 Students who are selected for the team need to be available for daily practices (Monday-Friday) starting August 24 from 3:30-5:30 pm (there are four or five evening practices during the fall season due to gym space). The season will conclude in early November and the team will play a 10 game schedule plus participate in the Liberty District tournament. While any student is welcome to tryout, there will only be a varsity team this year with limited spots. Any specific questions can be addressed to michael.krulfeld@apsva.us or annabelle.hartch@apsva.us (head coach).
